The blackjack dealer is a casino's employee who has professional skills in playing blackjack. Usually to become a dealer one has to graduate a school in which he/she will be trained for becoming a professional casino employee. It is even possible to be taught to become a dealer on the internet, but the certificate of online gambling school is usually never estimated by casino employers.

Duties of dealers in different casino games are different, so dealer at the roulette table has to act absolutely different than dealer at the blackjack table. Let us define the main rules and duties of the blackjack dealer.

If you are playing in live casino, you are playing against the dealer which deals the cards to all players at the table. The dealer begins with the players; he deals two cards for each player and for himself, and shows one of his cards to the players.

There are two basic rules for dealers:

• The most common rule is that the dealer should stand on all 17's. The dealer's Ace is counted as 11 always, except the cases when the dealer's hand has an Ace and the total is 21; in this case the Ace value is 1. For instance, if the dealer has a 8 and an Ace, it will be the total of 19 and the dealer will stand. And if the dealer has a 5 and an Ace, he will hit because the total is less than 17. If the dealer has 4, 7 and an Ace, the total will be of 12 and the dealer will hit.
• Some casinos follow the rule according to which the dealer should hit on soft 17. A soft 17 is the hand which may include such cards as Ace and 6, two aces and 5, 2, 4, and an Ace. If the dealer has one of these hands, he has to hit and then he has to stand on 18 soft or on 17 hard.

Cheating

As all the dealers are trained and usually have a lot of experience, it is no wonder that there are some methods of casino cheating by dealers. There were some cases in the past when dealers cheated players.
There are three methods of dealers cheating:

• Second Deal - the dealer deals the second card from the top of the deck.
• High Low Pickup-the dealer does a false card shuffle.
• Card Staking - the dealer arranges all the cards in the deck in some certain order.

If you notice that dealer is cheating, it is better to call the pit boss, who will settle this situation.
